All the parts arrived today so I spent this afternoon doing the upgrade.

Very straight forward. Installed and set up the HC3-SX controller too so it is now ready to test on Saturday.

Here are some pics... thanks for all your help and advice

I told you a few weeks ago that you would soon be changing your handle to 600 man!

Mike... you are SOOO right about wanting bigger helis but nope... 450man it is to stay. I really can't see me ever not having a 450. I went out on Monday and flew 6 packs on the 550 and 5 on the 450. The 450 is still great fun to fly but I have to be careful not to let it fly as far as the 550... it gets very small!

Looking good. Hope the Maiden goes as well as it looks.
Been there and done that, but never stop learning.
Now too many Helis to mention?

Maidened this morning. 6 packs. Flew sweetly immediately so just a bit of tweaking to the gyro gains to dial it in. By the 3rd pack I was doing some of my very best flying to date. It is even smoother and easier than the 550 and it is noticeably bigger in the sky even though it is not much bigger physically.

I think this may become my very favourite heli

Slightly off topic here but for a several year old heli that looks in absolutely mint condition lol.

The DFC kit is the last link in your post. My personal preference would be the EFL kit which is:-

600FL Flybarless Rotor Head System H60H003XXT Model Helicopters

Please note that there are other items required and these are listed on the web page of the above link.

                  Hi Granpappy,

Please can you explain the difference you find between the 2 models ?

                  Many thanks

                    Thanks Granpappy,

Can you explain why you prefer this FBL head ?

I've never flown a DFC head and I don't plan to. What I do know is:-

With DFC you have to have rock hard dampers which makes the head very precise but harsh.

With DFC you have to run a higher Head speed to get good feel. This means parts wear more quickly and shorter flight times on the packs.

With DFC more kinetic energy is transferred to the servo's in a crash so you are more likely to strip the gears.

As an ex helicopter engineer I'm not comfortable with the rotating swash being driven by the pitch links alone, it doesn't matter how beefy they are. You will never see that in a real heli.

Now it's very clear for me ...
I will order the EFL head.
