  • Spectrum DX7SE - off to a bad start!

My shiny new Spectrum DX7SE arived very promptly from Fastlads today - ooo loverly I thought get it set up tonight and then go to the indoor meet tomorrow. Oh no!

I can't believe I did not notice on the product description that it does not come with a TX charger!!!!

So now by the time I finish setting it up with my Dragonus the battery will be used up and I can't charge it so I won't be able to fly tomorow night!!!

Ok I know it's my fault for not reading the blurb properly - but come on a charger is pretty fundimental to a TX's operation is it not? That would be like selling a car but charging an optional extra for the fuel cap!! That's cost cutting to the extreme - not overly impressed.

As for the TX - struggled for 10 mins getting used to the new menu system and dearly missing the jog wheel on the DX6i - but now that I am used to it it is really good and have got everything set up nice It feels nicer in the hand than the DX6i and has a better quality feel for sure. Switches such as throttle hold seem to be a better fit to the fingers too I always found my fingers struggling to find the hold/idle ups on the DX6i.

Looking forwards to trying it in anger!

Running an AR6100e at the moment so no 2048 step 11 bit goodness yet - but will upgrade the reciever soon I think to get the full goodness from the SE.

I've made up a charging lead harness from a servo extension lead.
Expose the pins on the female side of an extension lead (remove the plastic housing that a plug would normally slot into in the extension) - these will plug into the battery plug to charge it (outside of the transmitter).

Stick a pair of banana plugs on the other end of the lead, positive and negative.
Signal wire is not needed and can be removed.

Plug lead into your normal NiMH charger.
    Remove battery from transmitter.
Plug the pins into the white battery connector on the Tx pack, getting the positive wire on the correct side.

    Charge as normal.

    Cheers,
    Rob

That's the problem I don't have a NIMH charger at all!! Only TX charger I have is off my Futaba T7CHP which is a NICD charger

      Trip down LHS tomorrow methinks!

        Doh!
Yeah, I definitely recommend you kit yourself out with a mutli-capable charger - very useful

It's worth having something like an IMAX b5/6 in your box, let's you charge nimh, nicad, pb, lipo etc. I rarely use the lipo bit, but it is useful for charging the tx, glow stick, field battery etc. Think it was about £30 delivered off of fleabay.

            * A NiCd charger will do just as well, just set it to 200 mA and let it charge overnight. At 1/10 C you can't really do damage to a NiMh pack, it just gets very mildly warm if you overcharge it.
            * Note, the polarity of the plug is different compared to Futaba.
            * You can take out the pack and simply plug wires into the pack's connector (or servo extension lead, as was mentioned)

            * Be very careful, don't ever short-circuit a charger cable connected to the radio. There is no protection diode inside, and a short circuit will blow the fuse. It's easily replaced and cheap, but annoying nonetheless.

Thats what I did. Out of interest what amps are supposed to be used to charge the standard battery?

Just a note on charging futaba/spektrum Plug right one in!!
Blew internal fuse in DX7 (which is good thing) but smoked both chargers ;(. Both TX where fine. Then charged both using BC6 but now have lipos.

Not really, more like selling a car with some fuel in the tank and expecting you to fill it up at your own expense when it runs out... hang on...

You would think that Tx's would come with a wall wart type charger though as they are pence to produce. Personally I use my old Mercury EX on all may (non lipo) packs as its inteligent charging in comparison with a wall wart trickle charger.

                          could be wrong about this...
Didn't they ship out DX7 with US charger and rather than send them back swapped out charger or sold it without and have to buy as an sneaky extra. Most shops put them in at no cost but some don't!! My local didn't robbin b###### and never go there now.
What can you buy that comes with nicads and don't come with some form of charger? nothing.

Butuz, contact Fast Lads and see what they say, try and wrangle a charger out of them, you've spent enough there. The US version definately comes with a charger there is a photo of the set on the US Horizon site

Maybe the Tx did come with a charger but it was taken out because it was the U.S plug.I have had this done to me before nad I asked the shop owners why and I was told that it is illegal for them to supply me with a non U.k 3 pin charger.
