  • Correct pinion for 450 Pro ?

    Hello everyone,

i have a Tarot 450 Pro Flybarred Heli and I have a Hobbymate HB2835-H Outrunner Brushless Motor on it. The motor came with a 12t pinion and the heli kit came with a 13t but it was the wrong size for the motor so I am currently using the 12t. Looking in both the Tarot and Align manuals they state to use a 14t pinion with the 150t main gear.

i am only at the stage doing tail in figure 8's but it does not feel very stable, if I change to a 14t pinion obviously I will get higher head speeds so I'll be able to reduce my pitch a little when hovering, will this make it more stable and would you recommend that I did this considering the stage I am at in my heli career. I have been at this stage for a couple of weeks and want to be able to control it better before I try anything else.

Thanks in advance for any replies, greatly appreciated as always !!!

    thanks James.

On my old SEV2 with std motor/ esc, ran 13T for around 2800rpm. Plenty quick enough for mere mortals.

higher speed dose make it more stable and i use a 13t as above head speed of 2660 at 90% now running 95% with around 2800 head speed

Thank you all ! What main gear are you using, do you have the 150t like me ? As if not i would need the 14t pinion to equal your head speeds ?

What kv is the motor? that's the important thing. I have tried an 11t a 12t and now on a 13t. It makes a massive difference. So much more power with the 13t, just has nothing to give at the top end otherwise. I am clocking 3400RPM at the start of my flights and it feels good to me.

Mine was standard non slant gear, can't remember exactly. 13 will be fine and reasonable flight time.
i was running 100% flat idle and got 4.00 just

Hi, the motor is 3800kv, currently been flying on 80% and getting 5 mins flight time per 2200mah pack. What main gear are you on as the other one that comes with the 450 is only 121t so that would make a big difference too?

                cheers

thanks, is there anyway to find out how old that manual is, both the Align and Tarot manuals I downloaded are dated Feb 2010 and Oct 2011 and show a 14t, just curious which pinion that Align currently recommend for the 450 pro.

i'll get the 13t for now anyway as on the 12t so probably best to only increase by 1t anyway given my level of experience.

                    thanks again.

If you want the longest flight times and you're just hovering, flying circuits etc. you can run an 11 tooth pinion and put on some flybar weights for a bit more stable feel and tame response.

Blades will make a big difference in stability as well, I'd recommend the Align 325D or Fs or the 3Gs.

With 450s in general they are very sensitive to the setup, having the swash really levelled and the tail mechanics as smooth as possible, getting the C of G right etc.
